Peru pulls away from Saranac, 52-39

SARANAC — It was a game of who could control the ball more effectively. Peru scored well in transition to defeat Saranac, 52-39, Wednesday.

“We knew going into this game that we would have to value the ball against a good Peru defense,” Spartans head coach Tim Newell said. “We did a decent job in the first half and ran the floor well, creating some good opportunities, only being down seven points. We lost a bit of focus in distributing the ball in our offense and had some costly turnovers to start the third quarter, which allowed Peru to get into their transition game.”

The Nighthawks were led by Reese Duprey and Violet Berry who scored 16 and 15 points, respectively. Bella Berry added nine.

Saranac was led by Maddie Gagnier as she finished with 12 points and nine boards. Lily Brown chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

“Our turnovers were the difference in the game,” Newell said. “Peru had to have scored 14 points off our turnovers. We did some nice things offensively when we got into a flow and fixed our spacing. I was very pleased with how hard the girls competed. There was never any quit in this team.”
