Could the Eagles sign this Steelers castoff in free agency?
· Yahoo Sports
The Philadelphia Eagles have been linked to signing a former Pittsburgh Steelers star when free agency opens next week.
CBS Sports have labeled the Eagles as a potential landing spot for former Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith. And it makes sense.

There’s a very real possibility that the Eagles will be bargain hunting in free agency for at least one tight end with Dallas Goedert’s future in doubt.
Goedert took a pay cut to stay with the Eagles last season. But now he’s a pending free agent — and after securing a career-high 11 touchdowns, the veteran is expected to get paid.
But it’s not just Goedert. Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson are also pending free agents, which means the Eagles will have to really reshape their tight end room this offseason.
General manager Howie Roseman is expected to use the 2026 NFL draft to help make that happen. But the Eagles will be scouring free agency for cost-effective finds, too.
The Eagles’ regular season total wins line is currently set at 10.5 games on DraftKings for next season. Smith, the 30-year-old Philadelphia native, could be that.
Smith spent his first seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. In 2024, he was a Pro Bowl pick with the Miami Dolphins after posting a career-high 884 receiving yards and eight TDs.
Smith didn’t play well in his solo season with the Steelers. He had only 38 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns while playing in all 17 games.
Smith was also in a crowded (and often mismanaged) tight end room with Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington. With Freiermuth and Washington still in the building, the Steelers cut Smith to save $7 million in cap space.
Maybe the Eagles would take a chance on Smith on a short-term, low-cost deal to help build out their tight end room.
