Texas wing Dailyn Swain named finalists for Julius Erving Award

· Yahoo Sports

During his first season as a Longhorn, Dailyn Swain has been a human highlight every time he steps on the court. That has earned the former Xavier star national attention as his new team has put together a compelling case to be in the NCAA tournament. On Thursday, Swain was rewarded for his play and named one of five finalists for the 2026 Julius Erving Award. Each year, the award is given to the best small forward in the country.

In 31 games for Texas, Swain leads the team in points per game with 17.7 while shooting 55.4 percent from the floor. He has been highly efficient from the free-throw line, shooting 80.7 percent. His stellar play doesn’t stop there: Swain also leads the Longhorns in rebounds, assists, and steals per game.

As the Columbus native has provided Texas with a spark, he has made national headlines. He is the only player in a major conference who leads his team in five different categories. Cameron Boozer, who has been key for Duke, is the next closest, leading his team in four categories.

While Swain has shattered expectations, he has taken his game to another level in conference play. Against SEC teams, the Africentric Early College Alum has averaged 19.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He has also made a difference on defense with 1.8 steals per game. That has helped keep Texas competitive against some of the best teams in the nation.

Although Swain's focus is currently on the SEC tournament, he will also be keeping an eye on how the voting plays out. While no date is set for when the winner will be revealed, Swain has put himself firmly in the running.

Regardless of how voting plays out, Swain has made his first year in Austin one that fans will never forget.
