Buffalo is looking to address position needs, and punter was one where the team has been looking for a consistent answer over the past several offseasons.

Eckley is a former All-American at Michigan State and was one of two Spartans invited to the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine alongside center Matt Gulbin. He has been a standout throughout his career in East Lansing, who could find himself headed to Orchard Park.

During the combine, he showcased his leg strength and punting technique to NFL evaluators.

His performance in Indy caught the attention of punter-needy NFL teams, with his ability to consistently boom punts with elite hang time, making him one of the top punting prospects in this year's draft class.

The All-American credentials and combine performance have him poised as a good prospect at a position that can be a difference-maker on special teams. His ability to flip the field and control hang time are traits that NFL special teams coordinators and the Bills value.

With a new coaching staff and coordinator, special teams is an area GM Brandon Beane and company will look to bolster, as they aim to win games in all three phases. Buffalo is giving a dedicated evaluation of the punting position as part of their pre-draft scouting, having also met with Syracuse punter Jack Stonehouse.

Eckley is projected as a late-round selection in the 2026 NFL draft.
