During an interview with Pollo Alvarez via FCInterNews, El Toro confirmed that he is ‘feeling better’ and can’t wait to return to action.

Lautaro Martinez suffered a calf injury in the first leg of Inter’s heartbreaking Champions League knockout tie against Bodo/Glimt.

Therefore, he has spent the last month in the pits, missing the last four games in all competitions.

Worryingly, Inter only won once in those four matches, netting an average of under one goal per game.

Furthermore, Lautaro’s absence has affected Marcus Thuram, who has been unable to find his footing without his attacking teammate.

As such, Cristian Chivu is keen to have his standout striker back from injury as soon as possible.

However, it’s still uncertain whether the 28-year-old will be available for Sunday’s trip to Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Meanwhile, Lautaro is hoping to make the matchday squad.

“I’m feeling better compared to the previous days, but we’re taking it step by step. I’m trying to recover as soon as possible to get back on the pitch,” Lautaro said. “I’m used to playing every three days, traveling, training a little, and always playing.

“Well, when that’s missing, you feel empty. I miss the pitch, I miss the adrenaline. During gym sessions, I try to release all that built-up energy.”

Then, he opened up on his impressive journey at San Siro.

“As soon as I asked for the number 10, their eyes widened in surprise – I said it was my first choice,” Lautaro added. “It was a gamble, but in the end it worked out well. I know the history of those who wore that shirt at Inter.

“However, I had confidence, and in the end it went well, as you said. We’ve been here in Milan for eight years now with my wife, my family, my children; we’re happy because people love us.

“I receive affection in the streets, at the stadium, even from fans of other clubs. From the moment I arrived in Italy, they’ve always treated me wonderfully.”
