Scheffler would have obviously been a heavy favourite to win at Memorial Park. The 29-year-old has been a runner-up on three occasions, including last year when Min Woo Lee triumphed.
However, he will not get the opportunity to go one better this time around. Scheffler will not tee it up in Houston as he and wife Meredith await their second child.
Their first, Bennett, arrived in May 2024. Golf fans have subsequently got to see him grow up in front of their eyes, with Bennett often seen in the celebrations whenever his father wins.
Obviously, that has been a frequent occurrence over the last two years.
But with The Masters just around the corner, it is interesting to look back to how Scheffler performed in the weeks after Bennett was born.
Those first five events were certainly eventful.
How Scottie Scheffler performed in his first five events after Bennett was born
PGA Championship (T8)
Scheffler’s first start after becoming a father for the first time came at the 2024 PGA Championship. Unfortunately, that tournament would be remembered for all of the wrong reasons.
Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla ahead of the second round. It was truly remarkable that he still managed to finish tied for eighth that week. His 66 on that Friday is arguably the most impressive performance of his career.
Charles Schwab Challenge (T2)
Like the Houston Open, Scheffler has multiple runner-up finishes at the Charles Schwab Challenge without winning. He finished tied for second in 2024 alongside Keegan Bradley as Davis Riley won by five.

Scheffler’s fifth win of the season came at The Memorial Tournament. He did not make it easy for himself, however, with Scheffler nearly squandering a four-shot lead heading into the final round at Jack’s Place.
He managed to retain his crown the following year. Should he repeat the feat in 2026, he will become only the second player after Tiger Woods to win the event three years in a row.
US Open (T41)
Scheffler never got to grips with Pinehurst at the 2024 US Open. In fact, he ended up registering by far his worst major finish since finishing second at the same event two years earlier.
It remains the last time he finished outside the top 10 in a major.
Travelers Championship (1st)
A sixth victory of the season came at the Travelers Championship, with Scheffler beating Tom Kim in a playoff at TPC River Highlands.
Climate protestors forced a delay as the final group played the 18th hole. Upon the round’s resumption, Kim made a birdie to force a playoff with his great friend.
Ultimately, Scheffler won on the first additional hole after Kim found himself with a plugged lie in the greenside bunker.
