BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball intends to hire Thomas Carr, an assistant coach from Louisville, as a fifth member of Darian DeVries’ staff.

The move, which a source confirmed to IndyStar on Wednesday, will add one further assistant to DeVries’ bench. Carr is not replacing an outgoing member of that staff.

With Pat Kelsey since he joined Kelsey’s staff in Charleston in 2022, Carr also spent time at NC State and UNC Wilmington with Kevin Keatts. He worked as athletic director at Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina, the alma mater of John Wall, T.J. Warren, Dez Wells and Jayden Quaintance, among others. And Carr worked previously as director of Team Loaded, one of the top AAU programs in the country.

Carr fills a position DeVries considered going back to his original staff construction last year. Eventually, DeVries settled on four full assistants for his first season in Bloomington. Carr now becomes the fifth.

He is not related to Ryan Carr, IU’s recently hired executive director of basketball.
