Jayson Tatum scored a season-high 26 points in Friday's home win for the Boston Celtics over the Atlanta Hawks, and following the game, he spoke candidly about his process since returning to game action earlier this month.

“I know I look rusty, made some mistakes," Tatum told NBC Sport Boston's Abby Chin in the on-court interview. "But one thing I do know is I’m playing my ass off — I'm trying as hard as I can. 10 1/2 months after tearing my Achilles I’m giving it all I got, and I know each game I’m going to get a little better.”

Tatum's done nothing but add positive value to the Celtics since he's been back, and his comeback on such a short timeline has been nothing short of remarkable. That fact the he looks this good already is something that pretty much everyone is underselling.

Being the superstar and perennial MVP candidate that he is, Tatum is being judged on an unfair scale by fans and media as he rounds back into form, but it seems like he understands the importance of daily progress and team success -- these are really the only things that mean anything on his current journey back from the Achilles injury.

Boston looks like an NBA Finals favorite out of the East. With each day that passes, Tatum improves, which is terrible news for every team not named the Celtics.
