Longoria’s exit from Marseille was confirmed earlier this month. It was a protracted exit, one triggered by Roberto De Zerbi’s exit as manager a few weeks earlier. In that time, sporting director Medhi Benatia also briefly left the club before returning. Upon his return, he was granted more power at the expense of Longoria, who was put onto institutional duties.
However, he could make a swift return to the world of football. As per a report from The Athletic, Argentinian side River Plate are in the market for a new sporting director and have targeted former Marseille president Longoria. Ramon Planes, who currently works at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, is also in contention for the role, whilst there is also another, unnamed, third candidate. Initial talks have already taken place.
