Bill Murray might show up at Michigan vs UConn. Here's why.
· Yahoo Sports
Bill Murray tried to go incognito with a beard at a recent NCAA basketball game. But since he's one of the world's most recognizable comedic actors, it was really difficult to pull off.
The actor, known for hit movie roles in "Groundhog Day," "Ghostbusters" and "Caddyshack" and TV's "Saturday Night Live," has been spotted at UConn basketball games all throughout the NCAA tournament. That includes UConn's thrilling win over Duke in the Elite Eight and over Michigan State in the Sweet 16.

For UConn fans, this is nothing new. Murray was also present for the Huskies' back-to-back national championship runs in 2023 and 2024, on top of other postseason games. And it's a strong possibility he'll be in Indianapolis on Monday, April 6 when UConn takes on Michigan for the NCAA men's basketball national championship (8:50 p.m., TBS, HBO Max, Sling TV).
Here's what to know about the Bill Murray and UConn connection.
Why is Bill Murray a UConn fan?
Murray's son, Luke, is an assistant coach at UConn, a No. 2 seed in this year's NCAA Tournament.
Luke Murray is in his fifth season on the UConn bench. Before taking the Huskies assistant job in 2021, he was an assistant at Xavier (2015-18) and Louisville (2018-21) under Chris Mack, now the College of Charleston coach. Luke Murray is in his ninth season on Hurley's staff across three different stops.
This will be his last run with UConn, however; Murray was hired to run the Boston College basketball program in late March.
Murray graduated from Fairfield University in 2007 in Connecticut and also served as an assistant coach at Post University (2008-09), Wagner (2010-11), Towson (2011-13) and Rhode Island (2013-15).
Where is Bill Murray from?
Bill Murray grew up in Evanston, Illinois and was a fan of the Illini as a child. He moved to New York City in 1974 where he joined John Belushi on The National Lampoon Radio Hour – a comedy radio show that was created, produced and written by staff from National Lampoon magazine – before landing a spot on "SNL." He attended Regis University in Denver, but dropped out before graduating.
Bill Murray's 6 sons
