Cam Skattebo’s mom Becky defends Giants star amid CTE backlash

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo landed in some hot water over the past week, when comments from the NFL star about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).
Skattebo made an appearance on the Bring The Juice podcast with Frank Dalena, when he commented that CTE and asthma were both “fake” medical conditions and are used as an excuse for people’s struggles.

The comments received immediate backlash from fans and the NFL community, prompting an apology on Saturday afternoon.

After Skattebo’s apology, his mother, Becky, came to his defense on social media and tried to explain that her son was simply being sarcastic when he made the comments.

Rebilas-Imagn Images“If only people knew how many times Cam had to ‘run and get mom’s inhaler,’ they’d realize the sarcasm,” she wrote on X. “You’ll never make everyone happy, and you’ll never say all the right things and people are bound to spin something sooner or later in a direction it was never intended to go.”
Skattebo often makes outlandish comments and quirky remarks, showing that he does joke around a lot.
However, joking about something as serious as CTE is irresponsible.
According to a report from the Boston University CTE Center in 2023, 91.7 percent of the former NFL players it studied were diagnosed with the disease.
