JULIUS MALEMA’S SON RATANANG CAMPAIGNS FOR VOTES

In a clip posted by the EFF, Julius Malema’s son, Ratanang, is seen speaking at the party’s mass voter registration campaign outside its offices in Gandhi Square, Johannesburg.

The teen – who matriculated from the affluent Johannesburg school, St David’s Marist Inanda last year – backed EFF policies such as land expropriation without compensation and free, decolonised education.

Introducing himself to the crowd, he said, “My name is Ratanang Malema, and I am from ward 13, Seshegong. We were called by the leadership to encourage young people to vote.

He continued: “Young people need to stop standing on the sidelines, as politics affects them. We need to vote for change, for free education, liberation of our people and must vote for economic freedom in our lifetime”.

Of his foray into political campaigning, his dad, Julius Malema, said: “I asked our leaders to ask my son to come and speak because it must not only be your children who do door to door, who go and register people, who go and campaign for the EFF – whereas Julius Malema’s children are in the comfort of their homes.

He added: “They must also go to the streets”.

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON?

Ratanang Malema’s political debut comes as no surprise, given his father’s early foray into politics.

Julius joined the children’s wing of the African National Congress (ANC) at the tender age of nine years old.  He quickly rose through the ranks, joining the Congress of South African Students (COSAS) and the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo, where he eventually became the national president in 2008

He later formed the EFF in 2013.

Like his father, Ratanang has taken on leadership roles at his school, where he was named one of the warcry leaders. He is also an aspiring DJ, like his dad.
