· BD24 Live

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that the Krishi Card (Farmer Card) and Family Card schemes will not lead to any inflation in the country. Instead, the economy will become more vibrant.

He made this remark on Wednesday (April 1) during a session of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament), in response to a supplementary question from Member of Parliament Akhtar Hossain (Rangpur-4). Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram presided over the parliamentary session.

The Prime Minister said, ‘The Member of Parliament asked how many people would receive the cards, whether there would be inflation, and what the budget would be. We are not disclosing the exact budget figures at this moment. We will proceed with these matters incrementally.’

He continued, ‘Since we will be expanding this scheme every month, meaning more women will receive Family Cards and more men will receive Krishi Cards, it is not possible to provide them to everyone at once. No country in the world can do this simultaneously. Therefore, we will increase the budget allocation every year, and provisions will be made in each budget.’

He added, ‘We will gradually progress in this manner, and it will certainly receive priority in the budget. Regarding your concern about inflation, we are not printing new money. Therefore, there is no question of inflation. Instead, we believe that when this money circulates in the market, marginal farmers and women will spend it domestically. They will not smuggle this money abroad; rather, they will spend it in the local economy.’

The Prime Minister stated, ‘A woman can use this money for her children’s education, family food provisions, or to start a small business. Consequently, the funds received from the government will strengthen the local economy and increase the flow of money.’

Tarique Rahman gave an example, saying, ‘If a woman uses this money to purchase goods from a local grocery store, that store’s sales will increase. This will boost the shopkeeper’s income, and if needed, they can hire new employees. This will create employment and further stimulate the economy.’

He further added, ‘The local economy will gradually strengthen. 70 to 80 percent of the country’s population uses products from local industries. Consequently, these initiatives will further empower local industries.’

Finally, the Prime Minister concluded, ‘We do not believe this will cause inflation. Instead, the economy will become more vibrant and robust. While significant changes may not be visible in the next six months, the living standards of marginalized communities will noticeably improve within three to five years.’
