The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a big loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. It was one of the biggest blowout losses of the Lakers' 2025-26 campaign, but it became even worse with Luka Doncic's hamstring injury.

This could have long-term repercussions for the Lakers because they heavily rely on Doncic to be their superstar player. He has done so in the past month or so because that is the time when they have truly elevated their game.

LeBron James wants the Lakers to prepare to play without Luka Doncic

Doncic's hamstring injury is one of the most worrying pieces of news for the Lakers. They are a team heavily reliant on their star players, and since LeBron is 41, he cannot carry this team on his own.

Thankfully, Austin Reaves is present, and he has been playing All-Star-level basketball when healthy. Unfortunately, they cannot replicate what Doncic has brought to the table in the past month.

Doncic is dealing with a hamstring issue that he initially sustained in the first quarter of the game against the Thunder. He re-aggravated it in the second half, which might have been an ill-advised idea from the coaching staff.

They were convinced that he was ready to go in the second half, but it seems that was a bad decision. Now, the injury might have long-term repercussions, especially for their upcoming postseason run.

"There's never a time to get comfortable in this league. The only thing we do know is that we won't be in the play, so we have that week. But health is wealth. We already out with Marcus right now, and now Luka. We don't know what the timetable is. We'll see," LeBron said after the loss to OKC.

As the Lakers progress into the Playoffs, they will need more star players to perform. Luka Doncic is their superstar, so preparing to play without him should not happen, but they might need to do it depending on the severity of his hamstring issue.
